Shillong: Bottom-placed Rangdajied United FC have signed North Korean international Kim Song-Yong on a one-year contract in the hope of changing their fortunes in the ongoing I-league season.
Kim joined Rangdajied from Thai Division 1 team Nakhon Ratchasima FC.
The 26-year-old striker has represented North Korea at the under-23 and senior national team levels, besides having the experience of playing in Japan with Kyoto Sanga FC.
“I am very happy and excited to finally have arrived in India. I look forward to repaying the faith showed in me by the Rangdajied United FC management. So my main focus will be to play well for the team, and have a successful season with Rangdajied United Football Club,” Song-Yong said.
The North Eastern club have just six goals from nine outings in the season so far and have four points, courtesy draws, and are placed at the bottom of the table.
The Blues already have four foreign players, the maximum allowed in the I-League, so who will make way for the North Korean is yet to be seen.
RUFC will next play Mumbai FC in Pune on Wednesday. (PTI)
