SHILLONG, May 2: The NPP has accused the Congress of playing the religious card in Garo Hills in the recently-concluded elections to the Tura Lok Sabha seat. The party, however, is confident that despite the Congress tactic, the NPP will retain the Tura seat, albeit by a “slim margin”.
Cabinet Minister and NPP leader, Marcuise N Marak on Thursday accused the Congress of showing old video clippings of churches being burnt and Christians being harassed, due to which people may have become emotional and decided to side with the Congress.
Marak also castigated Congress working president Deborah Marak for claiming that Purno Agitok Sangma and his family did nothing for Garo Hills in the last 47 years.
The NPP leader lamented that Deborah Marak, despite being a former deputy chief minister, forgot the contributions of PA Sangma to Meghalaya
“Everyone knows the contributions made by PA Sangma. During his tenure as Union Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker, he diligently and efficiently discharged his duties and his leadership was recognized not only by New Delhi but by the world,” he added.
