SHILLONG: Impersonating as his dead brother for the past 3 years, one Ehborlang Khongsit was arrested by the police recently after it was found out that he had been continuously drawing government’s pay in the name of his dead brother.

The matter was only unearthed recently after Dr. SM Kharbudon lodged a complaint at Sohra police station stating that as per RTI finding, it transpired that one Ehborlang Khongsit, a Chowkidar of the office of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Sohra (EKH) impersonated himself as his late brother, Kerborlang Khongsit.

According to the police, the accused has been working as a Chowkidar, a job originally held by his father who passed away in 2009.

Following his death, his son, Kerborlang Khongsit was appointed on compensation ground but unfortunately, he also died in the same year after he met with an accident.

Soon after that, the accused, Ehborlang who is the brother of the deceased had taken over the post without being appointed by the department concerned and for the last three years, he had been drawing his pay in the name of his dead brother.

Police are at present interrogating the doctor who was the then incharge for allowing such things to happen without informing the authority concerned at the same time, questioned the office for allowing the accused to draw money in his brother’s name despite knowing the facts.

The accused has been forwarded to the court on Wednesday and he has been remanded to police custody.
