JOWAI: The headman of Jalaphet- Bri Sumer, Ken Syrti succumbed to his injuries at Woodland Hospital, Shillong on Wednesday.
Syrti was brutally assaulted by a group of five unidentified persons at Moopala village while he was on his way from Jalaphet to Khliehriat on his Maruti Alto on Friday last.
“The unknown miscreant in a Maruti Gypsy occupied by five persons intercepted his vehicle at Moopala and mercilessly attacked him while one of his friend who was accompanying him was left untouched”, a source informed.
Several Rangbah Shnong in East Jaintia hills including the KSU Jalaphet Unit has strongly condemned the attack and killing of the Rangbah Shnong.
Headman of Tuberkmai Shnong, Embi Sana informed that an emergency meeting cum condolence meeting of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnongs will be held.
Khliehriat Deputy Superintendent of Police, W Muksor said, “We have identified the miscreants and raid has been conducted but we could not arrest them as they were found to be absconding from the village”.
The Rangbah Shnong of Tuberkmai Shnong has requested the headman of Sutnga and his elders to cooperate with the law so that the culprits could be arrested and punished.
