SHILLONG, May 17: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister, AL Hek, has said that he will seek a report about the cases pertaining to the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh.
He said that after getting the report, the state government will take the necessary steps to address the issue.
Hek also maintained that the government would need a detailed report on the cattle-smuggling issue before taking it up with the BSF, Meghalaya Frontier.
It may be mentioned that the issue of cattle smuggling from Meghalaya to the neighbouring country of Bangladesh has been going on for years, with no immediate solution in sight.
There are frequent instances of BSF Meghalaya personnel thwarting cattle-smuggling attempts along the porous international border, and apprehending Bangladeshi as well as Indian nationals.
