SHILLONG, May 18: A day after a portion of the retaining wall of the new Assembly complex at New Shillong Township collapsed, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has claimed that the incident would have no impact on the ongoing construction of the Assembly building since there was no connection between the two structures.
Sangma was speaking after paying a visit to the Assembly building complex on Saturday. He said as per the preliminary investigation, the retaining wall has nothing to do with the main building.
“The place where the retaining wall collapsed is impossible to reach as it is located far away from the main building and it is a totally different project,” he said.
According to Sangma, the retaining wall project is being implemented by the Assembly Secretariat and not the PWD.
The wall, constructed a long time ago, collapsed due to rainfall, landslides and other reasons.
