SHILLONG, May 30: A video circulating on social media has stirred controversy as it captures a young individual, donning a neon green Shillong Traffic Police jacket, riding a two-wheeler recklessly through the streets, sparking concerns of possible intoxication. The footage, filmed by a trailing observer, depicts the rider manoeuvring erratically, causing inconvenience to other commuters, prompting speculation about the conduct of traffic police personnel.
People in the comments, criticising the rider, and Shillong Traffic Police, wrote, “Now imagine if that was a civilian,” while somebody else wrote, “The people who are supposed to enforce the rules are breaking it in broad day light.” Another comment mocked, “Rules are meant to be broken but not by the ones who make them.”
Several other users also criticised the ‘hypocrisy’ when the law enforcers are the ones who are breaking them. However, on reaching out to the concerned officials, it was revealed that the rider was a newly recruited volunteer affiliated with the Home Guards, rather than a sworn officer. Officials clarified that the individual had been recalled to the Home Guard office for disciplinary measures.
Official sources further disclosed that the video in question is three days old, yet only surfaced publicly on Thursday.
