Mails sent seeking financial help

SHILLONG: An identified hacker used the email of Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese , Dominic Jala and sent emails to the friends and well wishers of the Archbishop on Monday seeking financial help.

“I am sorry for the inconvenience, I’m in Limassol Cyprus for a week and I just misplaced my personal belongings, I have written to my immediate family but have been unsuccessful so far”, the email said.

The hacker by using the email ID of the Archbishop ,”[email protected] further said, ” I need some financial assistance from you to get things sorted and I promise to pay back as soon as possible”.

When contacted, the Archbishop said he is in Shillong and he came to know from friends that his email- id had been hacked.

“If anyone wants to send financial help, they can send to me in Shillong”, said the Archbishop in a lighter vein

He, however, did not lodge any complaint with the police.

“Now I have changed my email-id following the misuse”, the Archbishop said.

He also said that there were several instances where the email-ids of his friends were hacked and misused for financial help. The Archbishop cautioned people to be aware of this menace.
