SHILLONG, June 21: Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai has urged the DoNER Ministry to upgrade the infrastructure, under PM-DevINE scheme, at the Lady Kerr Welfare Centre (Red Cross Hospital), Laban, with a special focus on maternity and child care.
In a letter submitted to Governor Phagu Chauhan on Friday, Sanbor said that the present Lady Kerr Welfare Centre complex in Laban, which has been occupied by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Lady Kerr Welfare since 1920, and is more than 100 years old, is in a dilapidated condition and is beyond repair.
The minister then suggested that to make the health complex equipped with the much-needed infrastructure, it is imperative to develop the entire structure with modernised tools, equipment and blood banks.
“In line with the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, this establishment relentlessly aspires to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimised, alleviated and even prevented, and thus contributes to creating a more congenial climate for peace,” the letter said.
Sanbor then urged that the health complex be developed keeping in view “the overall vision of the PM-DevINE scheme and in view of the overall welfare of the social fabric of the city”.
