City woman part of drug peddling nexus busted in EJH

JOWAI, June 24: Two women, one from Shillong, were part of a drug peddling syndicate busted in East Jaintia Hills on Monday.
Police initially received information that two persons along with a woman were travelling in a private car (AS01EJ8977) from Silchar reportedly carrying illegal contraband.
Accordingly, a naka was set up at Umtyra led by Deputy SP (Crime), East Jaintia Hills, Bidhan Bhattacharjee, along with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team.
The team detected a vehicle and a search was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses. Subsequently, 15 soap boxes containing yellowish powder were recovered.
Preliminary test was conducted which showed positive result for heroin.
After initial interrogation, police learnt that the consignment was to be delivered to one Maya Gwala, resident of Pynthorbah, Shillong, who was later arrested in Khliehriat.
The other accused persons include Sahin Hussain Laskar of Nagdirgram, Cachar, Assam, Rofiqul Alom Laskar of Harsinghpur Nagdirgram, Cachar, Assam, Mamta Sinha of Simgiri, Chibitabicha, Cachar, Assam.
Police also recovered heroin weighing 164.99 grams, three mobile phones and a vehicle (AS01EJ8977) were seized from their possession, which were seized.
