TURA: In an unwarranted incident, an innocent man travelling with his wife was killed in cold blood by two suspected militants simply because he failed to give way for their motorcycle in Rongjeng area in East Garo Hills on Wednesday evening.
The victim, Dominic Marak, and his wife were travelling through the area when the tragedy struck.
Two motorcycle borne youth accosted the couple for not giving way for their two-wheeler and a hot argument took place during which one of them whipped out a pistol and opened fire from close range hitting Dominic who was killed on the spot. The two attackers fled from the scene on their motorcycle after the firing.
Police later recovered the empty shell of a 7.65mm calibre pistol from the scene of the incident.
Mangsang medics put service before self
A medical doctor and her assistant en route to Mangsang were the first to rush to the aid of the injured who were shot by GNLA militants at Chasingre petrol pump on Wednesday morning saving precious moments for the victims who were bleeding profusely from the bullet wounds sustained.
The medics had come to Tura in connection with the repair of their ambulance and were returning to Mangsang when they came across the incident at Chasingre.
They lifted the first victim they came across, identified as Nobu Hajong, and rushed him to Tura Civil Hospital for emergency treatment while another good Samaritan, an auto rickshaw driver, ferried the second injured victim, Bishu Roy, all the way to the hospital.
Foreign automatic rifle recovered from GNLA camp
Meanwhile, East Garo Hills Police have recovered several items including a high powered automatic rifle from the GNLA general headquarters that was busted by security forces in Adugre region of Durama Hills on Tuesday afternoon.
Police recovered a powerful MA-3 (MK II), a Chinese hand grenade, two pistol magazines, 15 rounds of 7.65mm live ammo, four rounds of 5.56 live ammo, 14 empty rounds of AK ammo, 10 numbers of gelatine explosive sticks, GNLA identity cards and other documents.
