SHILLONG, June 30: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Northeast India, including Meghalaya, over the next four to five days, with particularly intense rainfall expected in some areas.
As of June 29, a low-pressure system has positioned over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts, contributing to the adverse weather conditions. Extremely heavy rainfall has already been recorded in Mawsynram and Mawkyrwat areas, the weather bulletin said.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers are anticipated in East Jaintia Hills, South Garo Hills, and West Jaintia Hills within the next 24 hours.
