SHILLONG: The central executive committee of the National People’s Party (NPP) will meet on December 19 in New Delhi to decide on the strategy and also on the candidates who will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls.

NPP chief PA Sangma said over phone from Tura on Saturday that the party is yet to decide on who will contest from Tura and the matter will be discussed in the proposed meeting in Delhi.

“We have not decided on the candidature for Tura. The matter related to the selection of the candidates for the Lok Sabha polls will be deliberated upon only during the December 19 meeting,” Sangma said.

According to Sangma, he has been told that BJP will support the NPP candidate in Tura during the Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier, the Meghalaya People’s Forum (MPF) led Opposition had also decided to support the NPP.

Though the Congress has many nominees including Cabinet Minister Zenith Sangma to contest the Tura seat, the final decision is still pending with the Congress High Command.

Expecting a change of scene in national politics, Sangma’s NPP earlier decided to support the NDA in 2014 polls.

Sangma also hopes to put up many NPP candidates to contest the Lok Sabha polls.

The NPP got four seats in the recently concluded Rajasthan Assembly elections.
