The killer potholes

The city’s thoroughfares are less ‘roads with potholes’ and more ‘potholes with occasional road’.
As monsoon season descends upon us, the pothole population has exploded, transforming Shillong’s streets into a veritable Takeshi’s Castle.
There’s now a 100 per cent chance of missing at least one pothole, a feat comparable to dodging raindrops in a downpour.
These miniature lakes, affectionately referred to as “swimming pools” by commuters, pose a serious threat to anyone daring enough to traverse the city’s landscape on a two-wheeler.
Similarly, this notorious chasm in Nongmynsong, situated precariously on a slope, has become a rite of passage for the brave souls who commute through the area.
Should your scooter venture into its depths, you’ll need more than just luck to escape; divine intervention might be your only hope.

Pink blossoms that are not cherry blossom!
Shillong, known for its spectacular cherry blossoms in autumn, is now experiencing a delightful spring surprise with a wave of pink flower trees. These blooms have transformed the city’s streets into a pink paradise, providing an unexpected photogenic backdrop for tourists and locals alike.
Despite the occasional sneezing fits caused by the pollen, the city is basking in its new rosy hue, sparking rumors of a potential ‘Pink-a-palooza’ festival.
Whether this pink invasion is a seasonal spectacle or a permanent fixture, Shillong is reveling in its springtime bloom.
