SHILLONG, July 22: Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has issued a stern warning to motorists regarding increasing traffic violations and noise pollution in the city. The STP has noted several instances of drivers violating the ‘One Way’ traffic regulation, posing a grave threat to other road users. Additionally, there is growing concern about two-wheelers overtaking from the left side, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians and passengers who de-board vehicles, which could lead to fatal accidents.
Further compounding the city’s traffic woes, there has been a noticeable rise in vehicles, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, fitted with loud exhaust pipes, contributing to significant noise pollution, particularly during late hours. This noise pollution causes immense discomfort to the elderly, infirm, young children, and others who require a peaceful environment.
Despite repeated appeals, vehicles also continue to be seen with unauthorised black or tinted films, blinkers, flashlights, and sirens, which are against traffic regulations.
The STP has asked concerned persons to refrain from such violations to ensure road safety and maintain a safe environment for the residents and visitors of Shillong.
It further cautioned that violators will face penalties as per the provisions of the law.
