Governor launches ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Shillong

SHILLONG, Aug 13: Governor CH Vijayashankar along with C&RD Minister AT Mondal launched the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.
In his address, the Governor emphasised the campaign’s goal of displaying the national flag in every household, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and highlighted the significance of the campaign, which promotes patriotism and unity.
This campaign started on India’s 75th independence anniversary, in a bid to foster national pride and encourage patriotism.
The Governor also acknowledged Meghalaya’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle, mentioning notable state freedom fighters like U Tirot Sing Syiem, Kiang Nangbah, and Pa Togan Sangma.
National flags were also distributed and the launch of two books published by the Department of Arts and Culture  titled U Tirot Sing and Bravehearts and Champions of Freedom from the Hills. Government officials, police, NCC cadets, and members of self-help groups attended the programme.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga 5.8K Run’ to mark I-Day celebrations
As part of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the Arts and Culture department, is organising the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga 5.8K Run.’ The event will start and finish at the State Central Library here.
The run will follow a scenic route through key landmarks of the city, including the DC’s Office, Governor House, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong College, St. Mary’s College, Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah Market, Fire Brigade, St. Edmund’s School, Malki Point, Barik Point, and Civil Hospital, before returning to the State Central Library.
The event features two categories — an open category for men and women and a special category for participants above 50 years of age.
Prizes for both categories include Rs 5,000 for first place, Rs 3,000 for second place, and Rs 2,000 for third place. In the open category, participants placing fourth through eighth will also receive a consolation prize of Rs 1,000 each.
On-site registration for the event will take place from 6 am to 6:45 am on the day of the run, with the starting time set for 7 am. Participants can also register online. Chest numbers will be distributed at the starting point during registration, and all participants will receive a free T-shirt and light refreshments.
