Event showcases state’s rich cultural diversity

SHILLONG, Aug 24: Meghalaya Together, a socio-cultural organisation, on Saturday hosted its flagship event, ‘Heritage: A Celebration of Shared Journeys’, bringing together representatives from various communities and showcasing the state’s rich cultural diversity.
The programme, which was organised at U Soso Tham Auditorium, was attended by cabinet minister AL Hek as the chief guest.
The event featured a variety of cultural performances, starting with Khasi traditional drums by Seng Riti from Wahkhen, followed by a Nepali dance by the All Shillong Gorkhali Chattra Sangathan, and a Ghoomar dance by the Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan.
In conjunction with the event, winners of an art competition, which was participated by students from various schools, were felicitated by The Shillong Times Editor Patricia Mukhim.
In her address as the guest of honour, Mukhim emphasised the importance of unity and cultural preservation.
Other performances included a Bengali dance by Ninad Dance Academy, a Garo folk song by Ahaja, a Bihari folk dance by the Bihari Welfare Association, and a ‘Dance of Unity’ by students from Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya Together, founded in 2023, includes individuals who have excelled in business, education and arts.
The organisation’s mission is to unite people from all walks of life and work for the welfare of all communities, embracing the state’s diversity as its greatest strength.
