SHILLONG, Sept 4: The state government is expected to finalise the appointment of the new chairperson for the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) in the next cabinet meeting.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the name of the probable candidate to be appointed as the new chairperson has already been approved by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
“The matter will be placed before the cabinet for its approval, and it is most likely to be taken up in the next cabinet meeting,” Lyngdoh stated.
Informing that the Commission already has six members, Lyngdoh said the only pending task is the appointment of the chairperson to head the Commission.
The current members of the SCPCR include Shanon Donna Massar, Yorica Shylla, Flabina P Marak, MK Marak, Tiana TD Areng and Dr. Ibamon Laloo.
It may be mentioned that the SCPCR has been without a chairperson since February, following the conclusion of Iamonlang M Syiem’s term, who is now the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
Syiem was initially appointed in September 2020 for a three-year term, which ended in December 2023. The state government had then extended her term for a brief period.
