NONGPOH, Sep 8: A woman’s body was found floating on the Umiam Lake near the main dam on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as 67-year-old Diamond Chyne of Nongmensong, Shillong, by her daughter Sweet A Chyne and other relatives.
The deceased had been reported missing from her residence on September 7. An inquest was conducted but no visible injuries were found on the body leading authorities to suspect drowning as the cause of death.
The family sought for post-mortem exemption, dismissing any foul play in her death. The request was granted and the body was handed over to the family for the final rites.
