Job card holders agitated over Act violation

SHILLONG: The Social Welfare Association (SWA), CEC, New Bhaitbari, West Garo Hills has threatened to file a case in the High court for alleged violation of the MGNREGA Act and payment of wages Act 1936 while alleging that the job card holders in Selsella block who are working under the MGNREGS are not getting their wages payment
In a statement issued here on Friday, Sofior Rahman, Gen Secretary, SWA, CEC even issued a seven day deadline to the State Government to pay the wages.
He also rued that in Selsella C & RD Block, the VECs and the Wages seekers are not getting 100 days employment every year though the MGNREA Guarantees 100 days jobs to each and every household.
According to SWA, the Association has filed and RTI regarding MGNREGS fund and details but the Block office has not furnished the information till today.
“Now the SWA decided to file our case to the Chief information Commissioner of Meghalaya,” the statement said.
Alleging rampant corruption in the Scheme of IAY 2013-14, he alleged that the block offices are not selecting the IAY beneficiaries as criteria and there is also a defect in the transfer of IAY fund from the Block office to IAY beneficiaries bank account.
While asking the Chief Secretary to institute a CBI enquiry in the alleged anomalies in the implementation of MGNREGA scheme in Selsella block, the Association asserted that it has got several complaint against the Block Development officer Dr. D. Roy of Selsella C & RD Block.
