SHILLONG: Cable viewers in Shillong may soon enjoy high quality television from their cable networks after the recent introduction of set top box by cable operators in the city.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the deadline for the cable operators in the city to provide STP to their viewers is September 2014.
A set-top box (STB) or set-top unit (STU) is an information appliance device that generally contains a TV-tuner input and displays output connects to a television set and an external source of signal, turning the source signal into content in a form that can then be displayed on the television screen or other display device.
They are used in cable television, satellite television, and over-the-air television systems, as well as other uses.
Reacting to a query about the non-uniformity in the cable charges across the city, Deputy Commissioner said that the administration keeps a tab to ensure that cable operators do not over charge their viewers.
“If any one feels that they are being overcharged, they can complain to us and we will conduct an inquiry,” Goyal said.
