NEHU recalls contributions of its longest-serving VC Prof B Pakem

SHILLONG, Sep 17: The community at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) recalled the life and contributions of former Vice Chancellor Prof Barrister Pakem on Tuesday during a symposium organised by the Department of Political Science as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The event served as a touching tribute to the longest-serving Vice Chancellor of NEHU, featuring heartfelt recollections from speakers such as Prof Gassah, Prof David R Syiemlieh, and other faculty members who had the privilege of closely working with Prof B Pakem.
During the symposium, the speakers passionately highlighted Prof Pakem’s impact as a teacher, his status as an Indigenous scholar, his tenure as president of NEHUTA, his role as the VC of NEHU, and his pivotal influence as a statesman in Meghalaya. They also fondly remembered his genuine simplicity, unwavering honesty, and approachable nature in interactions with students, scholars, colleagues, and the community.
The event was even more special as Prof TT Haokip, the Head of the Department of Political Science, felicitated Dr D Khonglah, the daughter of late B Pakem.
In addition, Prof Susmita Sengupta, Prof K Debarma, Prof Lakhon Kma, and Meo shared their heartfelt sentiments during the occasion. Dr Batskhem Myrboh delivered the welcome address, and Prof SP Das delivere the vote of thanks.
