SHILLONG, Sep 18: The stretch of road connecting Polo and Golf Link has become a hotspot for anti-social activities, with cases of snatching and looting on the rise, particularly during the evening hours when the area remains poorly lit.
An elderly resident recently fell victim to a robbery along the stretch. He recounted how three boys on a scooty without a number plate approached him, threatening him with an iron rod before making off with Rs 1,600 in cash.
In another incident, a woman reported that a miscreant snatched her mobile phone in broad daylight, despite the road being relatively busy during the day.
The absence of proper street lighting in the area has created a safe haven for criminals, with residents growing increasingly concerned about their safety, especially at night.
