Dorbar Shnong name candidates for District Council polls

JOWAI: Several Dorbar Shnong in Jaintia Hills have named their candidates for the upcoming District Council Elections with some even conducting elections to select contestants who would represent the traditional bodies in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The joint general meeting of four Dorbar Shnong — Umsalang, Latymphu, Musiaw and Moobakhon-has decided to field Rudaioo Tang as their candidate for the upcoming district council elections from Shilling-Myntang constituency in West Jaintia Hills. The general secretary of the four Dorbar Shnong, Poly Pyrtuh informed that the decision to field Tang was taken on December 16.
The Dorbar Shnong of Wapungskur in East Jaintia Hills elected Phasmon Dkhar as the candidate to contest the polls. Sitting MDCs Amos Dkhar and Tyrshain Siangshai are in fray from Musniang Rangad constituency along with Phasmon Dkhar.
The Dorbar Shnong of Wapungshnong in East Jaintia Hills, meanwhile, has decided to field Laski Rymbai as the candidate to represent the Tuber District Council constituency.
Tuberkmai Shnong village has officially declared Wanthmu Siangshai Phawa as its candidate. The decision was taken in the general meeting of the Dorbar Shnong held a few weeks ago.
JHADC Chairman Obil Kyndait and ex-MDC Helping Phawa are also in the fray from the constituency.
Several traditional bodies are yet to officially declare their candidates for the upcoming polls.
