Kolkata: Euphoric fans erupted in celebration at the East Bengal maidan tent after the club eased to a 2-0 win over Kalighat Milan Sangha to clinch a record 35th CFL Premier Division title and the fourth in a row here on Wednesday.
Needing only a draw to seal the title, East Bengal took a 24th minute lead when James Moga lobbed the ball over Kalighat MS goalkeeper Shantanu Ghoshal.
Nigerian Edeh Chidi struck in the 77th minute as East Bengal dominated the one-sided match.
In fact, it could have been 3-0 in favour of East Bengal but Ryuji Sueoka’s spot kick in injury time was saved by the KMS goalkeeper.
Soon after the match, about 18,000-odd jubilant supporters entered the pitch and celebrated the triumph with their players, making the club tent a sea of red and gold. (PTI)
