SHILLONG, Sep 25: The Ri-Bhoi police are analysing the CCTV footages from Them Bijoy area for any possible lead into the mysterious death of Laban resident Saumitra Chakraborty (48).
Sources on Wednesday said the police collected the CCTV footages from three to four locations in Them Bijoy area.
According to sources, the police are hoping that the CCTV footages will provide clues and help them with the investigation in the case.
So far the police have questioned only the family members and friends of the deceased, sources said.
Meanwhile, the Ri-Bhoi police are still waiting for the post mortem report from NEIGRIHMS.
According to sources, the police are treating the case as unnatural death.
Sources further said that the police will register a murder case only if anything suspicious is found in the post mortem report.
“It will take a few more days to get the post mortem report from NEIGRIHMS,” sources added.
It may be mentioned that the police are probing if the incident has any connection with his profession related to upkeep and services of ATM machines.
Saumitra, who had gone missing on September 19 from Them Bijoy area here, was found dead in Umiam Lake on September 21.
Ri-Bhoi Additional SP, Banrap Jyrwa had earlier told The Shillong Times that needle of suspicion points towards Saumitra’s profession since he was working with a firm which deals with ATM security. “This is the only angle for now. Let us see as the investigation follows what else we can gather,” Jyrwa had said.
