SHILLONG, Sept 30: Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Thombor Shiwat has cast aspersions on the Voice of the People Party (VPP) for reportedly attempting to take credit for the efforts of the NPP-led Executive Committee (EC) in securing funds to release seven months of pending salaries for the council employees.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Shiwat accused the VPP of acting not only as a political party but also as a pressure group.
According to him, the VPP had staged protests only after learning that the state government would release funds to clear the pending salaries of the JHADC employees.
“It is through the efforts of the EC and not of the VPP that the government has released the funds to enable the council to pay the pending salaries,” the JHADC CEM said.
He also revealed that the JHADC needs approximately Rs 6 crore to pay the pending salaries and expects to receive Rs 16-17 crore from the government’s share of royalties on major and minor minerals.
