SHILLONG, Oct 14: The Rynjah police on Monday summoned HYC secretary Issac Basaiawmoit for questioning in connection with the recent seizure of drugs by the pressure group in Rynjah area.
The HYC seized the drugs as part of its campaign against drugs in the city.
The police insisted that HYC members cannot take the law into their own hands since it is their job to carry out raids for seizure of drugs.
Members of the HYC led its president, Roy Kupar Synrem accompanied Basaiawmoit to Rynjah police station.
The HYC members also raised slogans condemning the police for the summon order.
Members of some women’s organisations also reached the spot in support of HYC.
Synrem told reporters that they have been forced to take up the fight against drugs since the police have failed to do their job.
He also questioned the police for booking HYC members who were involved in nabbing the drug peddlers and seizing drugs.
“The police action gives the impression that our members will be booked if we apprehend drug peddlers having close links with high level people,” Synrem alleged, while condemning the police action.
