JOWAI, Oct 26: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has decided to renovate its office in Khliehriat West, closed since 1998.
This facility previously served as the Council’s Forest Department office.
On Saturday, Executive Members (EMs) of the JHADC, including Seibor Shadap from Revenue Department, Phasmon Dkhar from Civil Works Department, Finelyness Bareh from Political Department, and Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy. CEM) Lasky Rymbai of the Forest Department, conducted a final inspection, thereby marking a key step in the JHADC’s decision to refurbish the office as part of a broader initiative to enhance service delivery.
According to Dkhar, the existing building will undergo repairs, alongside plans for constructing a new office for the Tax, Revenue, and Forest Departments.
This upgrade, Dkhar added, is expected to benefit residents in distant areas of Elaka, reducing the need to travel to Jowai and saving both time and money.
The renovation will also simplify access to Land Holding Certificates and other essential documents within Khliehriat, ultimately boosting the JHADC’s revenue.
