SHILLONG: Though only the District Councils will come under the purview of the Election Model Code of Conduct from February 5, the day of notification of elections, the District Council Affairs Department will issue a directive to all the State ministers and legislators to abide by the code of conduct.

Both KHADC and JHADC elections are scheduled to go to polls on February 24.

Recently Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that only the MDCs will come under the purview of the model code of conduct.

However, since a number of MDCs are also MLAs, the move of the District Council Affairs department to apprise the legislators on the need of following the model code of conduct is seen as an attempt to avoid any confusion.
