SHILLONG, Nov 1: Students of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and other Shillong-based colleges were provided hands-on training with 3D printers during a three-day workshop, which culminated at the university premises on Wednesday.
The workshop, titled ‘Layer Lab: Introduction to 3D Printing’, which was hosted by the Design Innovation Centre (DIC), NEHU, and local startup, Turbit Shillong, offered students an immersive experience in 3D printing.
The three-day workshop also provided a comprehensive introduction to 3D printing, with participants from NEHU and other Shillong colleges engaging in hands-on training with 3D printers, an overview of materials, the basics of 3D modelling, and practical applications of the technology, et al.
Meanwhile, attendees praised the workshop for sparking inspiration and a deeper understanding of 3D printing, which covered every stage of transforming digital designs into physical objects.
It may be mentioned that since the Maker Space was launched in late 2022, DIC and Turbit have organised short-term workshops exploring VR, AI and Arduino technology.
These initiatives are designed to promote creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking—key skills for the post-AI era.
This venture is among the first in the region to make innovation tools accessible to the public, emphasizing hands-on learning and practical application in short, impactful workshops.
