SHILLONG, Nov 6: The NPP-led MDA Government has come under heavy criticism from the TMC, which has accused the ruling party of establishing a “gunda-raaj” (rule of goons) in Meghalaya.
The statement was made by TMC State Youth president Fernandez S Dkhar following allegations from RTI activist Napoleon S Mawphniang that Henry Nongrum, the NPP president of the Nongpoh unit, had threatened to kill him.
“The recent incident in which NPP members allegedly threatened people for filing an RTI request is deeply disturbing and unprecedented in our state. We sincerely hope that law enforcement will take strict action against those responsible for such threats,” Dkhar said.
Condemning what he described as “gunda-raaj” in Meghalaya, which is proudly known as “Ka Ri Tip Briew Tip Blei” (a land that values humanity and godliness), the TMC leader added that this is not the first such incident during the six-year tenure of the NPP-led MDA Government.
Recalling the brutal attack on Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma, Dkhar warned that if this kind of governance continues, people will fear asking questions, and those who dare may face mysterious threats to their lives.
Demanding justice and accountability, the TMC State Youth president emphasised that the people of Meghalaya deserve a government that upholds the law and protects its citizens, not one that instills fear and suppresses voices through violence and intimidation.
