SHILLONG, Nov 7: Screening of the much-anticipated regional film Rapture, directed by Meghalaya’s own Dominic Sangma, began Thursday at the Soso Tham Auditorium, drawing attention to the potential of the state’s film industry. Rapture has already earned international recognition, having been screened in over 150 theatres across France, where it was praised for its compelling narrative and artistry.
Speaking at the film’s premiere, Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh, who attended the inauguration of the screening, lauded Dominic Sangma’s efforts, stating, “I am really proud of this film. The portrayal of various characters was done exceptionally well. It is now the government’s responsibility to match this potential and provide the support the regional film industry needs here in Meghalaya.”
One movie-goer said she was impressed and urged the community to come forward and support regional cinema. “The film industry in Meghalaya requires our encouragement, and it’s high time we show our support for such groundbreaking regional films,” she said.
Rapture will continue its run at the Soso Tham Auditorium until November 11, with showings at 12:15 PM, 2:40 PM, and 5:15 PM each day.
