SHILLONG, Nov 13: Shillong’s iconic blues-rock band, The Great Society, is set to make a comeback after 30 years, with an exclusive performance at the Cherry Blossom Festival. The reunion will feature the legendary Lou Majaw alongside Rudy Wallang, Ferdinand Dkhar, and Keith Wallang, marking the first time the band has come together on stage in decades. They are scheduled to perform on the festival’s opening day — that is the 15th of November.
The Great Society, founded by Meghalaya’s pop rock icon Lou Majaw, is celebrated for its blues-rock sound and soulful performances that have influenced Indian indie music.
Over the years, the band has included members like Lew Hilt and Sam Shullai of HFT. Known for his theatrical live performances and his annual Bob Dylan tribute concerts in Shillong, Majaw remains one of the most respected figures in India’s music scene.
Similarly, the first day of the festival is set to be special for people of Meghalaya, as Shillong’s very own, Shillong Chamber Choir is set to unite with the legendary Boney M for their farewell tour and perform alongside them.
Original member of Boney M, Maizie Williams, who is already in Guwahati, revealed that she is looking forward to her performance. They will be rehearsing along with the SCC before the much-anticipated collaboration on stage.
