‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ focus of Children’s Day prog in Jowai

JOWAI, Nov 13: A government of India initiative “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” was the theme of Children’s Day celebration in Jowai, where an event was organised to celebrate the occasion at the District Library in Mynthong, Jowai, on Wednesday.
Organised by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Jowai, in collaboration with the District School Education Officer of West Jaintia Hills, the event was attended by local MLA and Chairman of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, Wailadmiki Shylla, as chief guest.
In his address, Shylla encouraged students to dream big, work hard, and prioritise education, particularly for young girls. The celebration featured speeches by local officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner B Blah, District School Education Officer AP Syiem, and District Social Welfare Officer Y Najiar. DHEW Ambassador and body-building champion, S Lakiang, shared her journey, inspiring students to aim for excellence in sports and academics.
Several students were recognised for achievements in sports and academics, including Nihaka Lamare (Badminton), Hameki Dhar (Judo), and Mar Emdor Kini Sutnga (Cricket), as well as top performers in SSLC and HSSLC exams.
