SHILLONG, Nov 14: The Congress has decided to go all alone for the upcoming MDC elections without forming a pre-poll alliance with other political parties.
Informing this, Congress leader and MLA, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, downplayed the potential impact of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), emphasising that candidate quality and local issues play a critical role in elections.
He added that the party will engage with voters to remind them that it was the Congress that brought the Sixth Schedule to Meghalaya, enabling customary laws, land ownership rights and traditional governance to endure—an achievement he credited to the foresight of Congress leaders.
“It was the Congress leaders who felt the need to have an act to protect the minuscule population from being overrun by the majority,” Lyngdoh said.
Maintaining that Congress does not solely focus on elections, he highlighted that the party remains active and prepared across all 60 constituencies through its organisational and block units.
He confirmed that the candidate identification and selection process would commence as soon as the elections are officially announced.
