Shillong, Nov 17: A century by captain Kevin Christopher will, though in a losing cause, be long appreciated by members of the Meghalaya Cricket Association family for the way the young batter dug down to achieve his stellar feat against the Railways team.
Kevin had only recently lost his beloved father but soldiered on to represent the state U-23 team.
In Meghalaya’s first innings against Railways in Rajkot he struck 112 from 162 deliveries in an innings that included 20 fours and two sixes. His total was almost exactly half of Meghalaya’s 227. “Congratulations to Kevin Christopher for his brilliant century against Railw ays in the CK Nayudu Trophy,” MCA President Nababrata Bhattacharjee said. “It is a fitting tribute to his late father too, who passed away recently.”
Railways, batting first on the home ground, had amassed a huge 521/9 declared in their first innings, so Meghalaya’s 227 was well short.
They were thus forced to follow-on and were dismissed for 139 in the second innings, giving Railways victory by an innings and 155 runs. Second innings heroics were provided by Rohit Kr Yadav as he was unbeaten on 65 from 137 deliveries faced. In Meghalaya’s only innings in the field, Abhishek Kumar did well to pick up 4/104 in 26.5 overs with the ball.
