Shillong, Nov 19: Koswell Syiemlieh from Sohra Rim and a duo of archers from Laitkyrhong A emerged victorious in the singles and group categories, respectively, at the Rongbiria Seng Kut Snem 2024 traditional archery competition held on Sunday at Polo Ground, Shillong.
Organized by the Rongbiria Committee and Lum Jingthang Committee under the Seng Khasi Kmie, the event celebrated the rich tradition of archery and drew enthusiastic participation.
In the singles category, Shemphang Kharmawphlang of Lumparing-Lumsohphoh and Kyrshanborstar Kharshiing from Smit secured the second and third positions. Meanwhile, in the group competition, Team Arngut Siatlang from Nongmensong clinched the runner-up spot.
The tournament witnessed robust participation, with 215 competitors in the singles category and 81 teams vying in the group event.
Winners were rewarded generously for their performances.
The singles champion received Rs 15,000 and a silver arrow, while the second and third-placed archers were awarded Rs 8,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively.
In the group category, the winning team bagged Rs 35,000 and a bow, the runner-up received Rs 15,000, and the third-place finishers won Rs 5,000.
The event was supported by Centre Point Group Enterprise. The day began with a prayer led by elder Skor Jala, Chairman of the Tymmen U San Seng Khasi Kmie Committee, followed by speeches from Hainess Marbaniang, General Secretary of Seng Khasi Kmie, and O Pyngrope, President of Seng Khasi Kmie, who also hoisted the ceremonial flag.
The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by the Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Paiem Dr Balajied Sing Syiem, accompanied by members of Seng Khasi Kmie and JPK Seng Khasi Kmie, adding grandeur to the occasion.
This competition not only upheld the cultural legacy of traditional archery but also strengthened community ties through spirited participation and celebration.
