SHILLONG, Nov 27: The Meghalaya government has spent Rs 28 lakh on the renovation and beautification of IGP Point in Shillong as part of the Re-Imagining Streets initiative launched in March 2024.
Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Affairs Department, Dr. Vijay Kumar, revealed that the project, which took four to five months to complete, was recently inaugurated.
The revamped IGP Point features a locally inspired design incorporating traditional elements such as Sohra stones, sustainable bamboo and thatch, along with repurposed soil from Marten for the flower bed.
While the beautification project has been lauded for its use of locally sourced materials and cultural elements, the newly constructed thatched police booth has drawn criticism for lacking protection from rain, as its sides remain uncovered.
