SHILLONG, Nov 27: The much-anticipated Me’Gong Festival 2024 is all set to begin on Friday at the Baljek Airport in Jenjal, West Garo Hills.
Featuring an exciting line-up of international and national artists, the festival promises a cultural and musical extravaganza under the theme “Echoes of Traditions”.
Headlining the event will be Swedish rock band Europe, Bollywood actress-turned-DJ Udita Goswami, Indian pop-rock band Euphoria and Mumbai-based rock band Indus Creed, alongside celebrated Indian singer Gajendra Verma.
The two-day festival, which will culminate on November 30, is expected to draw over 3 lakh visitors.
The Me’Gong Festival 2024 will showcase Garo traditions through three primary components: cultural performances and musical showcases, traditional games and sports competitions and exhibitions of handlooms, handicrafts, and culinary delights.
Adding to the vibrant experience will be a traditional fashion show featuring tribal dresses and handwoven fabrics from the Northeast, with a special focus on Garo craftsmanship.
The festival also provides a platform for local talent, including Garo Hills-based rock band Da Suraka and Shillong’s folk fusion band Summer Salt.
Previous editions of the festival attracted over 2.3 lakh attendees and featured renowned performers such as Vengaboys, Armaan Malik, Parikrama, and Michael Learns to Rock (MLTR) in 2022.
“Me’Gong 2024 promises to be a delight for everyone with stellar international and national artists visiting the festival and enthralling its audience. It will bring together local communities, tourists, artists, artisans and culture enthusiasts under one platform,” a statement here said.
