SHILLONG, Nov 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday launched the Community Public Private Partnership (CPPP) programme aimed at establishing large processing units in Meghalaya, a move that promises to transform the state’s economic landscape.
The initiative, with projected investments of Rs 106 crore, seeks to foster partnerships between cooperatives and private investors, scaling up their earnings and driving overall economic growth.
Speaking at the launch event, the chief minister said, “The CPPP programme is a unique model that brings communities and private stakeholders together, creating opportunities for cooperatives to grow and compete in larger markets. This will not only increase their earnings but also boost Meghalaya’s economy as a whole.”
To further kick-start the programme, the chief minister handed over cheques amounting to Rs 16 crore under the CPPP initiative and an additional Rs 2.55 crore as working capital for various cooperatives. Highlighting the state government’s commitment to empowering agricultural and allied sectors, he flagged off several Agri Response Vehicles under the CM Elevate Scheme.
“We are committed to empowering our farmers and cooperatives by providing them the tools and resources they need to thrive. The launch of Agri Response Vehicles under CM Elevate is another step in ensuring that our farmers have better access to markets and infrastructure,” Sangma said.
Indo-German Cooperation on SDG Localisation
Later in the day, the chief minister attended the Indo-German Cooperation on SDG Localisation programme in the state capital, which brought together officials from NITI Aayog, GIZ, deputy commissioners and state government officials.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma emphasised the need for a unified approach toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Every department and official must understand the critical role they play in pursuing SDGs. This is not just about governance but about creating meaningful change at the grassroots level,” he said.
The chief minister highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots connections, foster convergence and promote teamwork, which, he continued, have significantly improved growth indicators in the state.
Sangma credited a shift in governance approaches for motivating Meghalaya’s administrative machinery to go the extra mile in achieving developmental goals.
“In recent years, we have adopted a different approach to governance, focusing on teamwork and convergence. This has driven us to revisit our goals and work together towards a shared vision for Meghalaya’s development,” he stated.
“Our shared purpose is to create a Meghalaya that not only achieves its targets but sets an example for others to follow,” Sangma added.
