NONGPOH, Nov 29: The Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi has rebutted a media report that had claimed an eruption of tensions in the interstate boundary of Meghalaya and Assam.
The DC clarified that no incidents had occurred in the Patorkuchi area near Basistha, as reported by The Assam Tribune on November 27, 2024, in its news item titled ‘Tension along inter-state boundary areas in Kamrup(M)’.
Stating that it has been closely monitoring the situation, the district administration said that it had constituted an official inquiry into the claims, the findings of which revealed that the reported incidents were baseless and misleading.
The district administration expressed disappointment over the unverified claims made by a reputed media house, calling them unfortunate and uncalled for, especially given the
potential ramifications on law and order in the already sensitive inter-state boundary region.
In light of the situation, the district administration has urged media outlets and the public to exercise caution and avoid disseminating unverified information that, it added, could lead to misunderstanding and unrest in the community.
