Kokrajhar: Suspected militants on Monday damaged railway tracks at two spots between Salakati and Fakiragram railway stations in western Assam’s Kokrajhar district, causing derailment of a goods train.
Nine bogies of the goods train, coming towards Guwahati, were derailed at Chetapani, between Kokrajhar and Fakiragram railway stations, at around 0700 hours on Monday.
Police later recovered wires and other materials used for cutting the tracks.
No person was injured in the incident.
Railway tracks were also cut at Singimari, between Salakati and Kokrajhar railway stations.
A railway patrol party spotted the damage done to the tracks.
All trains going out of Assam have been regulated at Bongaigaon, Rangiya and other stations, while those coming in the state have been stopped at Alipurduar, Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri and other stations.
Police suspect the involvement of militant outfit behind the incidents, though no specific group has been named yet.
Meanwhile, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive) (NDFB-P) began NH blockade on Monday.
The NDFB(P), engaged in peace talks with the government, has called the blockade demanding expeditious end to the parleys. (UNI)
