SHILLONG: The crisis in the Congress has further deepened with the three sitting MDCs alleging that they were betrayed by the party.

The KHADC chairman and sitting MDC from Umroi, Fabian Lyngdoh said that he decided not to contest the upcoming election after he was denied the Congress ticket.

“I was assured for the ticket when I switched from UDP to join the Congress. But now I have decided to support the UDP,” Lyngdoh said when contacted here on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the sitting MDC from Jirang, Artist Rani alleged that the party has betrayed despite giving an assurance to allot him the ticket from Jirang.

“I was assured by the party that I would be given the ticket when I left the UDP to join the Congress party. But now I have been betrayed by the Congress leadership,” Rani told reporters here on Saturday.

He however said that he would take the final decision whether to contest the upcoming district council election after his meeting with his supporters on January 28.

Another sitting Congress MDC ) from Jirang, Ostril Pamshong who is also an Executive Member in the KHADC Executive Committee also said that he was betrayed by the Congress.

“I have already anticipated that I would not get the ticket since I know the policy that Congress backtracks from its commitment,” Pamshong said.

He however expressed confidence that he would win the seats since Mawhati Constituency Political Committee (MCPC) led by the sitting Mawhati independent MLA and former HNCL chairman Julius Dorphang has assured to back him in the election.

Earlier on Thursday, the Congress had announced the name of Victor Ranee and R Briswell Shadap from Jirang and (Mawhati) as the official candidate of the party respectively.
