TURA: The conducting of MPS examination in Shillong at a time when there is an MPSC cell in Tura has irked the GSU.
The central unit of GSU based in Tura has written to the Chairman of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) urging it to conduct the upcoming Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) examination for the candidates of Garo Hills in Tura.
In its letter a copy of which was also submitted to the Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, Leader of the Opposition, Dr Donkupar Roy, North Tura MLA, Noverfield R Marak, South Tura MLA, John Leslee K Sangma, Deputy Commissioners of all districts of Garo Hills and MPSC Cell, Tura in charge, A V D Shira, the union questioned why the examination for the candidates of Garo Hills could not be conducted in Tura when the same had been done most of the times in the past.
“It is only this time that such an examination is being held generally at Shillong.”
“There is an MPSC Cell established at Tura for the convenience of the people of Garo Hills so that the people can be benefited without the burden of expenditure to be spend,” the General Secretary and Vice President of the union jointly said in a statement.
Alleging that the candidates of Garo Hills were being treated as second class citizens of Meghalaya who were being deprived of their right to equality, the union pointed out that the conduct of the general examination only at Shillong was an added advantage for the people living in Khasi Hills and urged the concerned department to conduct a separate examination for Garo Hills candidates as stated in order to ease their problems.
The union also warned that it would be forced to agitate democratically should the concerned authority fail to respond to its demand before the first week of February.
