TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Western Zone (North) has alleged various deficiencies in the functioning of the Community Health Center (CHC) at Phulbari in West Garo Hills.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday the President and the Assistant General Secretary of the union’s regional Unit informed that the supply of medicines by the government to the CHC was not sufficient in addition to the non-functioning of the Operation Theatre (OT) and the shortage of Doctors and other staff.
The union further informed that beds or accommodations for patients were also not sufficient as well as office buildings for the various treatments of patients.
Taking strong exception to the present situation at the health center the union has demanded that at least two ambulances be sanctioned for the CHC, eight other doctors besides MD, Child Specialist and a Gynaecologist be appointed, that the CHC be upgraded to 100 bedded, sufficient medicine supply and strength of staff be provided, immediate operationalization of OT as well as the sanctioning of a Generator at the earliest.
A copy of its letter has also been submitted to the Health Department Officer,  Tura and the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dadenggre.
