Govt plans to host National Games in first part of 2027

Shillong, Dec 29: The state government is contemplating to host the National Games in the early part of 2027.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had recently convened a meeting with concerned officials to review the implementation of the various projects for development of sports infrastructure for the National Games.
Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) president, John F Kharshiing said on Sunday that they have set a target to host the National Games in February-March of 2027.
According to him, this target was set based on the fact that a majority of the sports infrastructure projects for the National Games is likely to be completed by the end of 2025 or latest by March 2026.
“We have together taken a call to communicate to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) that we will be ready to host the National Games in 2027,” Kharshiing said.
The MSOA working president also informed that Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri recently submitted an official communication to Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya on the decision of the state government to host the National Games in February-March of 2027.
Kharshiing further added that they have a timeline of two years to accomplish the goal of hosting the National Games.
Recalling the host city agreement signed between the state government and the Indian Olympic Association in 2018, Kharshiing said that the state government had bid to host 36 disciplines.
It may be mentioned that the recent review meeting chaired by the chief minister was attended by Commissioner and Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs, Vijay Kumar, senior government officials and members of the MSOA.
