SHILLONG, Jan 14: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will meet soon to discuss the CAG’s findings, recommendations and observations in the report for the years ending 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.
KHADC opposition leader Titosstarwell Chyne, who is also the chairman of the PAC, said he is planning to convene the PAC meeting next week.
“Let the committee meet. Once we study the report of the CAG in detail, we will divulge the recommendations we are going to make,” Chyne said.
Earlier, former Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N Syiem also felt that the PAC should meet at the earliest so that it can suggest the actions which need to be taken based on the CAG’s observations and recommendations.
KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem had declined to comment on the CAG’s observations and recommendations. He had stated that the PAC would examine the CAG’s findings and determine how to address them.
He had acknowledged that the CAG raised concerns about irregularities in the utilisation of grants received from the Centre and the recruitment process for filling vacant posts in the council.
“I am not competent to comment anything on the CAG report since the House has authorised the PAC to study the report,” he said.
The other members of the PAC are Bindo Mathew Lanong, Lambor Malngiang, Martle N Mukhim and Bajop Pyngrope. The Secretary of the KHADC’s Legislative Wing will act as the member secretary of the PAC.
