Ceremonial torch reaches Jowai

JOWAI, Jan 20: The ceremonial torch of the 6th Meghalaya Games 2025 completed its 360 km journey, making its way from Tura, Shillong and arriving in Jowai on Monday. The torch is now displayed at the Lumkywiang Iungwalieh Dorbar Hall, where it is available for public viewing.
The journey was marked by a ceremonial rally that commenced from Hyperfuse Café in Chahtngit, passing through Iawmusiang, Mission Compound, and Lumkyrwaing.
Accompanying the torch were athlete Heimonki Khaii and golfer Jason Kerchwami Passah.
The torch will be ceremoniously taken to the inaugural venue at Wahiajer, signaling the official start of the highly anticipated 6th Meghalaya Games at 2 pm on January 21.
Key dignitaries attending Monday’s event included MLA and Chairman of MUDA Wailadmiki Shylla, Working President of Meghalaya State Olympics Association (MSOA) John F Kharshiing, Vice President of MSOA and Chairperson of the Reception Committee for the State Level event Matsiewdor War Nongbri, General Secretary of MSOA F Paiat, and Headman of Lumkyrwiang Lamat O Laloo.
The 6th Meghalaya Games, set to run from January 20 to 25, is poised to be a grand occasion, with the torch relay marking the final stage of preparation for the games. Having been flagged off on January 17 from PA Sangma Stadium in Tura, the torch has now entered its final laps in Jowai and will conclude with an official countdown to the opening ceremony.
The inauguration of the Meghalaya Games will be held in Wahiajer and will be attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, among other dignitaries.
