Govt sends copies of six laws on influx to pressure groups

SHILLONG: The State Government has, till date, forwarded copies of six out of the 52 laws on influx to the pro-ILP pressure groups for their perusal.
The six laws, copies of which have been dispatched to the pressure groups, are the Citizenship Act, 1955, Citizenship Rules 2009, The Foreigners Act 1949, the Inter State Migrant Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act, 1979, The Meghalaya (Benami Transactions Prohibition) Act, 1980 and The Meghalaya Transfer of Land (Regulation) Act, 1971.
In addition, the Political Affairs department has also informed the pressure groups of a Government notification on constitution of the District-level team on influx.
The notification issued to 11 pressure groups also mentioned that copies of other laws and rules would be furnished in due course.
However, the pressure groups have alleged that copies of some of the acts provided to them were not in gazette form while the copy  of The Meghalaya Transfer of Land (Regulation) Act, 1971, had been typed and forwarded to them.
The pressure groups, who were demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the State, had suspended their four-month-long agitation following a meeting with the Government on January 15 where they had agreed to study the 52 existing laws and rules related to influx.
